  Support A Matigsalug Child Project

  Project Abstract

The Support A Matigsalug Child Project is a scholarship program of the AKAP Foundation which aims aims to support the Ata Matigsalug Tribe scholars of the KALAYAG Community Center for Matigsalug children and youth. It is a non-profit, non-government organization that helps underprivileged children and youth in rural and urban communities. The center features a school dormitory, library, training room, farm, and warehouse for crafts and farm produce.

The scholars are taking up courses in agriculture, education, and community development which are relevant to the communities where they came from. An agreement is made that all KALAYAG scholars will serve their communities after they graduate.

There are currently seven High School and four College scholars enrolled in the University of Southeastern Philippines. Two KALAYAG graduates, namely Rudy Mande, BS in Secondary Education, and Hael Joy Apino, BS in Community Development, are now serving their respective communities.

  Dinner for a Cause
AKAP Foundation's member and restauranteur Vanessa Vitrano organized a fundraising dinner for the Support a Matigsalug Child Project held at their very own restaurant, Galileo, in Makati last June 26, 2009. About thirty friends and partners of AKAP Foundation supported the event. They were encouraged to give to the less fortunate as they learned about the deserving indigenous scholars of KALAYAG who are eager to finish high school and pursue higher education.
